I am in a great dilemma. I am in a 9 month old relationship with a guy that I really love. I am very willing to spend the rest of my life with him. Unfortunately, for the past 9 months I have been keeping this relationship a secret from my family. The moment they knew he was courting me they already told me to stay away from him for he is not gonna do me any good. The reason they despise him is because he is a divorcé and has kids. I on the other hand love him for his character, faith, and devotion. I do not mind his past relationship because it is just part of his personality but not his entire being. I have met his kids and they’re amazing. They’re really sweet and love their father more than anything. I am hoping to introduce him to my family in the future when I feel that I am way financially capable. I know they might disown me in the future. I don’t know if everything is worth the risk but I know I love my partner and with him on my side I can overcome anything. I know I am wrong for lying but I feel like I don’t have a choice. I don’t want to loose either of them – my family and my boyfriend. I hope you can shed some light on this matter.

First of all, if you are already 18 years and above, then you can decide for yourself, by doing a conscience judgment. (the articles are here).
Second, be sure that the marriage of the other is indeed annulled, or you both can work on it.
Third, it would be best to tell your family. It will do you good in the discernment that you are about to take. The family, after some time will eventually have to learn.
And don’t forget to pray and consult more people before you make a decision.

yes i’m turning 22 soon my boy friend is already 28. We have our differences but we always try to come to a compromise. We give and take. Every single day I pray to God to forgive me for deceiving my parents (I feel like I am left with no choice), that He bless my relationship with my boy friend, and that my family will ultimately accept the person I love. I am hoping that they don’t have a cold heart.
